Kochi Metro gets set for the big day
KOCHI: District collector Mohammed Y. Safirulla on Saturday convened a high-level meeting to review the arrangements of the commissioning of Kochi Metro on June 17. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the function coordinated by an event management firm. The KMRL has prepared a long guest list of 3,500. A meeting to be convened by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday will finalise the PM’s programme. As per the current plan, he will reach the Naval Base airport and hold a meeting with the chief minister and ministers either at the guest house in the naval base or in the city.
The meeting will be followed by the Metro commissioning function at Kaloor. The PM may also take a ride, which is yet to be confirmed. Meanwhile, construction of the stage at the inaugural venue will be under the strict monitoring of the police. The public works department has been entrusted with it in association with the private event management firm.
Details of labourers will be handed over to the police. CCTV cameras will be installed before the construction works begin and visuals of workers and visitors at the site will be recorded. During the meeting attended by city police commissioner M.P. Dinesh and deputy commissioner Yathish Chandra, the collector instructed officials of departments concerned to repair drains near the stadium to clear water logging, carry out maintenance of roads from Naval Base to Kaloor and to ensure proper parking facilities.
Apart from the district hospital, Naval Base Sanjeevani Medical Trust and few other private hospitals will be asked to be prepared in case of any medical emergency. Officials of fire and rescue department, city corporation, food safety department and Greater Cochin Development Authority also have been asked to take necessary measures. The meeting was also attended by sub-collector Dr Adeela Abdullah and ADM M.P. Jose.
