Thusharagiri gets new bridge to woo tourists

The Rs 10-crore project was completed while the approach road is getting ready.

KOZHIKODE: The new bridge recently completed in Thusharagiri across Chalippuzha, a tributary of Eruvanjippuzha, is expected to link Wayanad to the northern part of Kozhikode district. The tourism stakeholders believe the bridge would attract more passengers on NH 212 to the destination as it is a matter of 15 minutes to reach the spot.

“Earlier it was a terrible affair for tourists to take a deviation from Thamarassery to come here taking a circuitous route. Now it is easy for visitors from both Kozhikode side and Wayanad side to reach the spot from Adivaram,” Jose Pulimoottil, a resident of Kodanchery, told DC.

The Rs 10-crore project was completed while the approach road is getting ready. Tourists from Wayanad had to reach Chembukadavu to access Thusharagiri waterfalls. The bridge has now reduced the distance to mere 9 km from 17.

However, the forest department is not happy as it would increase the pressure on the waterfall and the forest. Kozhikode divisional forest officer KK Sunilkumar told DC that the summer this year had a longstanding impact on the region as majority rivulets were dried up.
