Probe on into damaging Pinarayi Vijayan flex
THALASERRY: A man who was taken into custody for allegedly damaging the campaign flex boards of CPI (M) strongman Pinarayi Vijayan was released after the police found he was out of the station during the attack. The enquiry into the case is still going on.
Many incidents of clashes and damaging campaign materials of rival UDF and NDA candidates were reported from Thalassery area following this. The 300-metre long flex board depicting the history of Mr Vijayan's political activities was put up at Pandyalamukku near his residence in Dharmadam and was set ablaze by unidentified motorcycle-borne persons early Monday morning.
Police said the situation was under control and no untoward incidents were reported on Tuesday. “Though we have taken a man into custody, he was released after his mobile tower location had revealed he was not in the place at the time of the incident,” an officer told DC.
There were alleged attacks on Dharmadam UDF candidate Mambaram Divakaran and BJP Thalassery Municipality councillor K. Lijesh by CPM workers on Monday in retaliation. Earlier, two CPM workers had surrendered in a case of spitting on UDF Thalassery constituency candidate A.P Abdulla Kutty.
