Delhi girl Tina Dabi tops UPSC exam, J&K boy Athar Aamir ranks second

Tina, 22, who topped the list in her first attempt, is a political science graduate from Lady Shri Ram College.

New Delhi: While Delhi-based girl Tina Dabi topped the 2015 civil services examination, railway officer Athar Aamir Ul Shafi Khan from Jammu and Kashmir came second. Delhi-based Jasmeet Singh Sandhu, also an Indian Revenue Service Officer, secured third place in the results declared Tuesday.

Tina, 22, who topped the list in her first attempt, is a political science graduate from Lady Shri Ram College. “It feels incredible. I still can’t believe that I have topped the exam. It was my first attempt. I am excited and waiting for a new learning experience, and only hard work is the key to success. It is indeed a proud moment for me,” said the UPSC topper.

“My mother is my role model. She wanted me to study political science. I chose it and got through in the examination. It was one of my main subjects,” she added, crediting her mother, a former Indian Engineering Service (IES) officer who took voluntary retirement.

While expressing her excitement, Tina said she always wanted to be an IAS officer in the Haryana cadre since the state has fewer working women. “I always wanted to work in a challenging state. That is why I chose Haryana. We all know the girl and boy child sex ratio is quite less, and that is why I would like to contribute my efforts to the empowerment of women there,” she said. “Women’s empowerment is very important. I have seen how my mother has brought me up. It is because of her guidance and support that I could get top position in the test,” she added.
