Mahatma Gandhi University employees seek to stop self-financing society plan

The letter is perceived to be a political conspiracy to destroy the self-financing institutions of the MG University, he alleged.

Kottayam: The MG University Employees Union on Monday asked the government to abandon its move to bring self-financing institutions providing a significant share of the varsity's income under a separate society. They said the government and the MG University Syndicate were going ahead with this initiative to commercialise higher education. Union general secretary G. Prakash called for a protest against the "move to eliminate those institutions functioning on merit."

He alleged that the letter of the health secretary to the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) registrar on October 22 refrains the varsity from giving equivalence certificates to the medical courses run by the universities in the state. The letter is perceived to be a political conspiracy to destroy the self-financing institutions of the MG University, he alleged.
