Hyderabad: Crane firm says it did practice lift

The crane operator said that they had been conducting trials for the last four days.

Hyderabad: A decommissioned Air India Airbus aircraft was damaged near Old Airport Road in Begumpet after a crane which was carrying it collapsed on Sunday. According to officials, the aircraft was insured with the National Insurance Company for Rs 25 lakh.The crane operator said that they had been conducting trials for the last four days.

“All necessary procedures and planning required for the removal of the aircraft were in place. Today morning, the plane was successfully taken out of the airport but at one particular moment the crane gave away and the plane became unstable and landed on the ground,” an official statement from Air India said.
Officials added that the Airbus will be dismantled at the accident spot and the entire aircraft will be removed part by part. “It might take two or three days,” said an official from North Zone police.
