A splash of colour for Kozhikode on anvil
KOZHIKODE: “Colour your city” is the name of the new initiative where city police, Compassionate Kozhikode and people will come together to make the city clean, colourful and beautiful. The district collector launched ‘Colour your city” on Friday to give the city a snazzy look. “Colour your city” mainly aims at cleaning the entire city and giving its walls and other essential areas a splash of colour. The volunteers of Compassionate Kozhikode and police officials started at 7 am on Friday to clear and remove all flex boards, wall posters, digital hoardings that have been illegally erected, marking the first phase of the project.
The officials of Revenue Department, KSEB and also the Public Works Department helped the police in this mission. Speaking about the initiative, City Police Commissioner Jayanth Jayanthan said, “All advertisement hoardings and flex boards which have been put up in different parts of the city without obtaining permission from the District Collector or the Corporation authorities will be removed in the coming days”. As a second phase to the drive, all the city walls including the walls owned by private parties will be given a paint of colour, to give them a fresh lease of life.
Mr Jayanthan said that it had been made clear to vendors and advertising agencies that if they wanted to put up hoardings within the Corporation limit or municipality or the town panchayat limits, they would have to get prior permission either from the Collector or the person in charge of the region. “Through this drive it has come to our notice that many are violating government orders in terms of putting up hoardings, and the result is mounting advertisement hoardings and digital banners which are causing inconvenience to the public,” he added. It has been decided that advertisements without permission, would attract charges under the Disaster management act, highway protection act and also the motor vehicle act.
