Municipal Workers Call Off Strike

Vijayawada: The municipal employees and workers unions in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday called off their strike on Wednesday. All these employees and workers will join their duties from Thursday.

The Cabinet sub-committee held discussions with the unions and the state government agreed to resolve all their issues through discussions.

Education minister Botsa Satyanarayana discussed matters with the union leaders. Later, speaking to the media, he said the state government is willing to resolve all the problems of these employees.

Besides paying Rs.21,000 as wages per month, they would be provided with other facilities. Ex gratia would be paid to the kin of the employees at an enhanced rate of Rs.7 lakh instead of Rs.5 lakh.

Satyanarayana said the government would accept applications for the ex gratia from those who had not applied for this since 2019.

On the occasion of Sankranti, the minister announced a payment of Rs.1,000 to each worker to enable him or her to buy new clothes. A GO on this would be issued on Thursday. He said the employees would be paid salaries for the strike period.

Adviser to government Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, special chief secretary to municipal and urban development, Y Srilakshmi, CDMA Koteswara Rao and other officials participated in the talks with leaders of YSRTUC, AITUC, IFTU, APCITU, TNTUC, APMEW etc.
