AP's GI Products Will Increase to 500: Nabard

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh currently has 20 GI products. However, users of these products are significantly low, which is inhibiting the true potential of these products.

In this context, the AP office of NABARD organised a regional advisory committee meeting as well as a GI workshop in Vijayawada on Thursday.

The meeting decided to increase the number of GI products in Andhra Pradesh to at least 500.

Speaking on the occasion, NABARD CGM M.R. Gopal emphasised the importance of GI products in states like Andhra Pradesh, which has significant products covering the fields of agriculture, horticulture, handlooms and handicrafts, among others. He assured all possible support from NABARD to increase the number of GI products and their authorised users in Andhra Pradesh.

GI expert and Padma Shri awardee Rajni Kant, KVIC state director Dr. S. Greep senior officers of APCOB, industries department, handlooms, textiles and agriculture university were also present.

Rajni Kant explained in detail the process for registration of GI products and their authorised users. He thanked NABARD for its initiative in promoting GI products all over India. He said thanks to support of NABARD, the maximum number of GI products have been registered in India.
