Change GVMC Council Agenda: CPM

Visakhapatnam: The CPM has alleged that the GVMC council meeting to be held on Monday will harm the people of Visakhapatnam. CPM corporator from 78th ward B. Ganga Rao alleged that the council meeting agenda is prepared in favour of ruling party leaders and demanded changes in it.

GVMC has already given a notification to lay a 100-feet master plan road from Siripuram Circuit House to Nowroz Road. CPM is saying this move of GVMC will help the high-rise apartments being built on the controversial Daspalla Hills. Now, the council meeting agenda carries a proposal that the GVMC will spend '4.64 crore for the said 100-feet road. Ganga Rao alleged that this kind of funds allocation will benefit the real estate business. So, the party is asking to remove this proposal from the agenda.

To supply water to Madhuravada, an amount of Rs 500 crore will be allocated for industrial and drinking water needs and 15 MGD (85 mld) of water from Narva will be brought into Mudasarlova reservoir through gravity.

“GVMC has about 280 acres of land at Mudasarlova. Its value is around '5,000 crore. It is known that this land has been unilaterally approved for 99 years in the name of public-private partnership (PPP) mode. This proposal has been brought forward to build business and commercial establishments in the land,” said Ganga Rao.

“GVMC has to borrow another Rs.595 crore. In the last meeting, it was decided to take a loan of Rs.500 crore for providing UGD facility in Madhuravada area. GVMC has already taken a loan of about Rs.500 crore. If these kinds of proposals passed, then the GVMC will face a huge debt,” he pointed out.
