Beypore's EASY mission wins praise

Aims to fine-tune children skills while entering HS.

KOZHIKODE: The Beypore Development Mission is on with various measures to improve the educational standards of coastal region by introducing various programmes on career training, orientation programmes and interaction sessions. Headed by V.K.C. Mammadkoya MLA, the organisation has been imparting educational assistance to 850 school children from 8 government schools under the project EASY (Educationally Aligned Society for Youngsters) which helps students to fine-tune their skills while entering the high school classes.

The organisation in association with other administrative agencies under the government spends up to '2500 for each student exposing them to various orientation sessions under the year-long programme. Last year 600 selected 8th standard students from six schools received the opportunity. V.K.C. Mammadkoya MLA told DC that the move is aimed at catching them young and to train them for higher acadmic and career challenges. Most of them are coming from impoverished families who will not be getting good guidance at home. With ‘EASY’ they will be empowered to attend the scholarship tests, interviews, language orientation programmes, learning tricks and would also undergo personality development modules”, he added.

Another project prepares students of plus 1 to win the National Means cum Merit Scholarship Programme which ensures them a financial assistance of Rs 6,000 per year (Rs 500 per month). “Earlier there were only few students who attempted the test. But last year we had trained 450 students of which 46 bagged the scholarship”, said P.P. Ramachandran, convener, Beypore Development Mission. “This year more than 800 students have appeared for it of which we expect more than hundred would emerge victorious”, he added.
