Thiruvananthapuram: Master plan delay has public in peril
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The people residing in areas demarcated for IT corridors and high-security zones in the draft masterplan for city development continue to face trouble in construction as the new masterplan is at least a year from realisation. The affected include even the homeless people who were allotted land by the corporation to construct houses at Chembuparambu and Attinkuzhy areas, says Attipra councillor Suni Chandran. Several people in areas like Kattayikonam also continue to shuttle to Attipra zonal office for construction permit.
The corporation had during the last sitting established a committee, including corporation officials and representatives of various parties, to draft a plan in a year. An interim order in this regard will be published on December 15 by officialdom. Further, the political discourse will follow to draft the masterplan. “We want the masterplan to focus on establishing IT corridors, parks and green zones in sparsely populated areas to avoid eviction. We are yet to decide our representatives in the committee,” said corporation opposition leader Giri Kumar.
Meanwhile, a revised map available with the regional town planning office (RTP) has removed the ban on the construction at a few areas marked as green strips. “This week, I found from the RTP that the ban on construction on my land at Muttada has been removed. Houses were already built on even land next to me. Construction is possible on land as small as 5 cents,” said a building permit aspirant. The town planning department had released a masterplan and later a revised one which were to be accepted by the corporation ruling council.
