Schools spar over Kalolsavam result
KOZHIKODE: The tussle between two prominent city schools here, during the sub-district Kalolsavam, for supremacy has now spilled over to social media causing anxiety among school students. Both the schools have been involved in a verbal fight alleging malpractice in the judgment of the competition since the results of the band team was announced. Students of Anglo- Indian Girls Higher Secondary School and Providence Girls Higher Secondary School have been insulting one another in the form of posts and images in social media.
Anglo Indian Girls Higher Secondary school officials, students and their parents first alleged that the school’s band team had been winning the State School Kalolsavam for nearly a decade and had been deliberately put in third position so that chances of going in for an appeal, could also be blocked. “We have an audio tape of one of the teachers of a school here, talking about the malpractice during the judgment of the band competition, said Manoj Kumar, the school PTA member.
The school has filed a complaint to Nadakkavu Police and also the Deputy Director of Education, against the judges of the band competition alleging malpractice. But Providence school teacher Sunitha said, “My students are being repeatedly harassed by parents and band trainer of Anglo Indian school, and now my students refuse to go out for practice”. “While practicing at Sarovaram, a few people came in a car and tried to take a video of our students performing, and have now some started insulting us through social media. We can’t even go to school due to these viral posts uploaded on facebook,” said one of the Band members. Jolly Jerom, vice-president, said that Anglo Indian school misled students by filing fake cases.
