Cyclone Vardah gains momentum, may bring rains on Monday
Chennai: Cyclone Vardah, which would intensify into a severe cyclonic storm at the Bay of Bengal in the next twelve hours, will provide significant rains to the city on December 12
Even though the official track forecasts a possible landfall between Nellore and Kakinada, the unclear tracks make it skeptical for the weather experts to forecast.
“Rains are now witnessed at Andaman, as the cyclonic storm is about 250 km westnorthwest of Port Blair and 990 km southeast of Visakhapatnam, said S. Balachandran, director of Regional Meteorological Centre.
Weather blogger, Pradeep John said, “Rains can be witnessed on 12 December as the storm nears the South Andhra coast. However, as the tracks are not clear, it is too early to predict the magnitude of the rainfall on account of Vardah.”
The storm is expected to move in a westwards direction and to weaken at the East Coast.
Just like in the case of Nada, dry winds and high wind shear at Indian peninsula, act as constraints for Vardah, as weather experts see a chance of them affecting the system. Meanwhile, the city and its suburbs resume to colder nights scenario as the minimum temperature is hovering around 21 degrees Celsius.
