Teacher aspirants may write TET in December
Chennai: After the gap of three years, teacher aspirants in the state may appear for the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) in December following the Supreme Court’s order which upheld the relaxation of qualifying marks in qualifying test for teachers.
As per the Right to Education Act, candidates have to secure a minimum of 60 per cent marks (90 marks out of 150) to clear the TET. After the representations from various sections, the chief minister announced the relaxation of 5 per cent marks to the candidates belonging to SC, ST and BC, MBC and persons with disabilities. The pass mark is fixed as 82 out of 150 for these candidates.
Reacting to the court’s order school education minister K.Pandiarajan said, “We are happy that the apex court has upheld the state government’s stand in relaxing the 5 per cent of marks to the candidates belonging to socially disadvantaged categories. We will make efforts to conduct TET in December.”
TRB officials said, “Now we can go ahead with conducting the exams and recruitments. After discussing with the government we will finalise dates for the TET.”
P.B. Prince Gajendrababu, general secretary, State Platform for Common School System, said, “It is a big relief to candidates affected by the earlier order of the Madurai bench which cancelled the relaxation of marks. But the aspirants will also be affected by the state government’s weightage marks system,” he said.
