HYDERABAD: Residents of colonies which were inundated after Saturday’s downpour had to clear muddy water from their homes by themselves, as no help arrived from the GHMC.
Citizens got some respite as there were no rains on Sunday and just light rainfall on Monday, which allowed the water on the streets to drain away. However, they had a tougher time getting the water out of their homes using pumps, buckets and other utensils. Many of those who had moved to their friends’ or relatives’ houses returned to their respective homes by Sunday.
Netizens also vented their ire on Twitter, questioning why roads got inundated and the lack of aid from GHMC to drain away water.
A tweet had a picture and a video of a road in Netajinagar, Kattedan Industrial Area, which showed the bad state of the road and how it was flooded post rain. The tweet read: “Netaji nagar IDA katedan complaints pending for more than four years still no action, treating public as football GHMC to HMWWSB [sic].”
Khairatabad, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Madhapur, Attapur, Hafeezpet, Miyapur, Gachibowli, Lingampally, Moosapet, Shaikpet, Krishnanagar, Bandlaguda, Tolichowki, Ramanthapur, Nadeem Colony, Mehdipatnam, MS Makta, Midhunanagar, Srinivasa Colony, Lingojiguda, Sriramnagar and Tapovan Colony were among the worst affected by the rain.
