North Andhra farmers supporting Vizag Garjana, asserts Amarnath

VISAKHAPATNAM: Industries minister Gudivada Amarnath on Sunday stated that farmers of north coastal Andhra Pradesh have pledged support to the “Vizag Garjana” scheduled on October 15 supporting decentralised development of the state with Visakhapatnam being the executive capital of AP.

The minister held a meeting with local MLAs and important leaders to mobilise people for the rally and make the required arrangements.

Speaking to reporters, Amarnath said representatives of north Andhra farmers will arrive in Visakhapatnam on Monday and give details about the participation of their people in the rally.

Meetings are also being held with members of Visakhapatnam Bar Association, trade unions, nurses’ associations, medical officers and government employee associations in the next one or two days.

“We are trying to mobilise the maximum number of people for the Garjana to strengthen our campaign for decentralisation,” Amarnath maintained.

He said a procession taken out on the occasion followed by the meeting will send a message to all parts of the state on the importance of decentralised development and how to ensure balanced development of backward regions.

The minister said it is high time “farmers paid” for the Amaravati to Arasavalli pada yatra come to a realisation and return home. “TD chief N. Chandrababu Naidu should understand the ground realities,” he observed.

When asked about BJP and TD leaders remarks on resignations of MLAs, Amarnath said both these parties have disparagingly spoken about north Andhra and belittled the region’s leaders.

“Leaders of these two parties have no self-pride. They keep supporting their superiors, even though it is detrimental to the interests of north Andhra region,” he remarked.
