People thronging for Godavari Harathi
KAKINADA: Huge crowds are being witnessed for Nitya Harathi being jointly organised by Endowment Department and Sri Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Murthy Devasthanam in Annavaram of East Godavari District.
People even from far off places are getting drawn to the Pushkarghat in Rajamahendravaram for participating in the 14 varieties of Harathi being given to River Godavari. Devotees of Goddess Kanaka Durga can be seen wearing “Bhavani Malas” and taking a holy dip in the river while participating in the Harathi.
Rajamahendravaram MP Margani Bharat said efforts are being made to get Rajamahendravaram declared a “Heritage City”, as the place dates back to thousands of years.
Participating as chief guest at the function, zilla parishad chairman Vipparthi Venugopala Rao said being born along Godavari coast is a boon for people. He lauded Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for restarting the Harathi for River Godavari.
Gopalapuram MLA Talari Venkatrao was among those who spoke. Cultural programmes like Kuchipudi dance, performed by Vedantham Venkata Durga Bhavani and Harikatha by Sarma Bhagavathulu of Vijayawada are being organised coinciding with Pushkaralu.
AP Industrial Development Corporation director K. Sagar, AP Khadi Village Industries Board director Pilli Nirmala Kumari, Chagallu ZPTC Garapati Vijaya Durga, Dwaraka Tirumala Trust committee director Kotha Vijaya Rajyalakshmi were among those who have participated in the programme.
