KOZHIKODE: The public have been given a chance to choose the best driver in the city, be it in driving an autorickshaw, taxi or city bus. All that members of the public have to do is either send a WhatsApp message, email or a letter to the Calicut Management Association that is running a contest in association with City Traffic police, to find the best drivers. 50 of the selected drivers would also be given a free workshop on soft skills and traffic rules. “The public can suggest their choices till October 15 either through a WhatsApp message to 9656253885 or an email to cma.calicut@gmail.com. They can also write to the Calicut Management Association, Second Floor, Peekay Complex, Cherootty Road, Kozhikode - 673032,” said CMA president K.A. Ajayan.
Three drivers each from the categories would be honoured by the CMA at a function to be organised at Police Club. After the completion of the workshop, Traffic police will issue certificates to the awardees with their photos which they can display in their vehicles.
This initiative, Mr Ajayan said, would go a long way in promoting Kozhikode as a tourist destination as also act as a check on traffic irregularities and accidents. “We are also planning to make this an annual event in public interest, he added. The public needs to send the following details in the message: Name of the auto/taxi/city bus driver recommended for the award, his/her phone number, vehicle number and reason for recommending the name.
