More CCTV cams to keep Kozhikode under watch

The cameras that are to be installed by the end of October have been ordered through a private company.

KOZHIKODE: In the wake of a series of incidents like robbery, harassment and security issues reported from various parts of the city, the District administration has decided to install more high quality with advanced technology CCTV surveillance cameras at prime spots here. A minimum of 100 CCTV cameras will be installed in the first phase of the project and a common monitoring wing will be allotted in the collectorate to track the recording of each camera. The cameras that have been installed but are damaged will also be sent for repair at the earliest and bring the city completely under the surveillance of the District administration.

“The initiation is with the equal support of the City police department who have also sought for cameras to be installed in the city to keep an eye on criminal and illegal activities," said District collector UV Jose. The major spots identified during the first phase will be main beach and Butt road beach, Mananchira square, Sarovaram bio park, all the traffic signals and infront of the more populated schools located in the heart of the city like Nadakkavu Government Girls Higher Secondary School, BEM Girl’s Higher Secondary School, Model HSS and Christian College campus schools. Medical College hospital road and its premises will also be kept under survelliance, he added. The cameras that are to be installed by the end of October have been ordered through a private company.
