UP: Teacher garlands disabled boy with sandals as he fails to wear shoes

The student's father Virender Singh filed a police complaint alleging that the teacher garlanded him with the sandals.

Muzaffarnagar: A class third student was allegedly garlanded with sandals by a teacher as a punishment for coming to school without shoes in Shamli district near Muzaffarnagar.

The boy’s right hand and leg are congenitally bent. His father Virender Singh filed a police complaint alleging that the teacher garlanded him with the sandals the boy was wearing on Saturday at the school in Bhabisa village in the district.

"Due to the disability in his right leg, he cannot wear school shoes every day as it leaves marks and makes it even more difficult for him to walk. He had gone to school wearing sandals on Saturday. Seeing this, his class teacher garlanded him by pasting the velcro of the two sandals together, and paraded him around the school. This has caused mental stress to him and action should be taken against the teacher and the school authorities," Virender Singh was quoted as saying in a report.

Kandhla Police Station SHO Anuradha Singhal said they are investigating the matter.

Meanwhile, school authorities have denied the allegations, saying it is a cooked-up story to hide the fact that the family has not paid the school fee yet.
