Nepotism row: Pressure mounts on E P Jayarajan

Opposition seeks industries minister's resignation

Thiruvananthapuram: The clamour for industries minister E. P. Jayarajan's resignation is increasing day by day. On Sunday, KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran reiterated that censuring the minister either by the party or the CM would not do and added chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s claim that he was not aware of the appointments his minister made was unbelievable. "This is not an internal matter of (his) party or an issue between two people," he said, adding Mr Vijayan should not try any gimmick to allow him to continue in government.

Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala also stepped up attack on Mr Vijayan saying appointments in PSUs will not take place without his consent. "Mr Jayarajan has lost his moral right to continue as a minister. But the CM is protecting him," he told reporters in Wayanad. “No other industries minister has so far committed such a grave error. Not his relative's alone but all appointments (he made) should be cancelled.”

He said the CM criticised Mr Jayarajan only when it became a controversy so as to save his own face. He wanted a case registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act. “The LDF came to power promising action against the corrupt and see what’s happening now. The Opposition will also be intensifying our agitation in the self-financing issue,” he said.
