Guntur: Playing a significant role in the overall development of the country, a group of college students are concentrating on studying and attempting to come up with new inventions that would help in boost the country’s growth rather than just spend their time to prepare themselves for a job.
Among them, one group of students recently invented a drone that can sprinkle urea and fertilizers on fields which will help in saving time and money for the farming community.
Engineering students of KL University, led by A. Gopi Raja, EEE 3rd year, have developed the pesticide-sprinkler drone named Fopple (Fourth Apple)..
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has appreciated the group’s efforts and the state government has decided to adopt this method of helping the farmers.
Raja said his father faced health difficulties due to inhalation of pesticides during sprinkling in their farmland. This prompted him to look into a more appropriate way and to invent the device for the purpose.
The university offered him Rs 1 lakh. He completed the drone project with the help of other students using equipment imported from abroad. A 5-litre tank is fixed on to the dro-ne, while a remote would be used from the ground to control the drone.
Spray of fertilizers on one acre of farmland can be completed in 10 minutes by employing the drone to do the job. His team is now working to build an advance model wherin a 10-litre capacity tank would be attached to the drone that would further improve the process.
Another group of KLU students invented Hunger Bee, a mobile phone app to order food on the go. They also launched an online start-up called Hunger Bee Store that will cater to the orders placed online.
Another B. Tech final year student of KLU, S. Sriram, and six other students together launched a start-up named isthriwala.com, offering laundry services at one’s doorsteps in Vijayawada. Now it is offering services in Hyderabad too.
Nine girl students of ECE final year of Vignan Nirula Engineering Coll-ege - Jahnavi, Likhita, Indraja, Sriravali, Susmitha, Hemanjani, Srivani, Srilakshmi Jayanti and Jayalakshmi - invented a fork lift crane that can automatically lift and sh-ift material. The crane do-es not require an operator but would be controlled by a remote.
