Chennai Metro Rail resumes Green Line Services

The train stoppage time at stations has been increased from 20 seconds to 50 seconds to maintain social distancing

Green Line Metro Rail services, from St. Thomas Mount to Puratchi Thalaivar Dr M G Ramachandran Central Metro station, resumed on Wednesday.

A press statement issued by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), said that the operation recommenced in the Green line as part of resurrection of its operations in a graded manner. CMRL ,which had suspended all operations on March 22 due to the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns, resumed the Blue Line operations on Monday between Washermenpet and Airport Metro Station .

The Green Line operations between St Thomas Mount and Puratchi Thalaivar Dr M G Ramachandran Central Metro via Koyambedu restarted from 7 am to 8 pm with Peak Hour headway of 5 minutes and Non-Peak Hour headway of 10 minutes.

Contact-less QR code ticketing methods and Travel Card Reader machines have been introduced in all 32 metro stations for safety of passengers. These facilities can be utilized by downloading the CMRL Mobile app’, it said
