Chikmagalur accident: Bodies of students brought home
Kottayam: The body of one of the two students of the Amal Jyothi Engineering College, Kanjirapally, killed in an accident in Chikmagalur district of Karnataka was brought to her home in Wayanad on Saturday. Their bus met with an accident near the Magadi dam late Friday night after visiting various institutions in Bangalore, Mysore and Coorg. There were 72 students of the fifth-semester electronics and communication engineering in two buses. One of them carrying 36 skidded into a pit while allowing a tractor to overtake amidst torrential rains and mist.
The dead were identified as Merin Sebastian, 20, daughter of Devasia Kuruvilla, of Mundakayam Varikkany Valayathil, and Irene Maria George, 20, daughter of PT George of Sulthan Bathery Koduvatty Puthenkunnu Paleethumolel. They had left Kottayam on September 5 as part of Onam vacation and were expected to return on Sunday, college authorities. With them were teachers and representatives of parents. The funeral of Irene will be held at the Sulthan Bathery Theduvatta Orthodox Church on Sunday 10 am. The body of Merin expected to arrive late Saturday night will be kept at the college for the public for paying homage on Monday evening. The funeral will be held at the Vyakula Matha Forane Church at Mundakayam on Tuesday 10 am.
