No stretcher in hospital, UP man carries pregnant daughter-in-law in arms
Lucknow: A man in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur city carried his pregnant daughter-in-law in his arms to the emergency ward of the district hospital allegedly in search of a stretcher.
Anshu Pandey, 25, a resident of Gerua village in Lalganj tehsil, died after giving birth to a stillborn baby in a caesarean operation. The relatives of the deceased accused the doctors of showing negligence in duty.
Anshu was brought to the Mirzapur district hospital by an ambulance on the night of September 4, her father-in-law Kapoorchand Pandey alleged that no doctor attended to her for nearly five hours. Seeing the woman in acute pain, he took her to a private doctor who referred her back to the district hospital.
However, the hospital authorities dismissed the allegations saying that proper care was provided to the woman.
“No negligence was shown to the woman. We started treatment on September 4 though her condition was precarious. After a caesarean operation, she gave birth to a stillborn on September 5,” said Dr Sanjay Pandey, Acting chief medical superintendent.
“When the patient’s condition deteriorated, she was referred to Varanasi hospital on September 6 where she died on September 7,” the doctor said. “I have checked the records of her treatment and found nothing wrong,” he added.
