Kerala: Nod to MBBS admissions in two colleges

The High Court had directed the KUHS to give temporary affiliation to the colleges.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Admission Supervisory Committee headed by Justice J.M. James has approved the admission process for MBBS courses in SR Medical College, Varkala, and Kerala Medical College, Palakkad. The admission was withheld after the Kerala University of Health Sciences said that these colleges did not have approval.

The High Court had directed the KUHS to give temporary affiliation to the colleges. The prospectuses of SR Medical College and Research Centre and Kerala Medical College were approved on September 2. Simultaneously, the approval order of the prospectuses was withdrawn. Meanwhile, the two colleges filed petitions in the High Court to direct the KUHS to grant provisional affiliation to them.

The court accepted their appeal and also asked the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE) to allot students, as per the admission schedule issued by the ASC. However, the ASC asked the colleges to submit the corrected prospectus to the committee, which will be scrutinised later. The new schedule for the admissions will be as follows: Date of counselling/admissions of first round applicants-September 17 Last date for remitting the fees and joining the college after the first round -September 22.
