HYDERABAD: Stating that deliveries in the state government hospitals, which touched a new high of 72.8 per cent in July, was an exemplar of the health department's progress, said Health minister T. Harish Rao, while lauding the achievement. He said that the percentage of deliveries in government hospitals has more than doubled from a mere 30 per cent before the formation of Telangana state, thereby signifying the department's growth and excellence. He appreciated the dedicated efforts of the medical and health staff, who had brought about this transformation.
The minister was addressing a review meeting on health department's programmes and performances with senior officials here on Thursday. He evaluated the implementation and impact of various health initiatives being implemented in the state.
Pointing to the increased reliance on government hospitals for deliveries, Rao said that there was significant increase in people’s trust in the quality of services provided by them. He pointed out that the government hospitals in Narayanpet district had recorded an outstanding 86.9 per cent delivery rate, closely followed by Medak 83.5 per cent and Jogulamba Gadwal 81.1 per cent. He commended Jogulamba Gadwal, Medak and Nagar Kurnool districts for securing the top three positions overall. Emphasising the need for similar performances in Hanamkonda, Mahabubabad, and Kamareddy districts, Rao urged medical officers to focus on areas where registrations were below the state average.
The minister laid stress on the significance of the newly-established typhoid scanning missions in government hospitals, particularly for pregnant women. Around 32,000 scans were conducted through 56 TIFFs across 43 hospitals, furthering the government's mission of providing free examinations and treatments to pregnant women.
He pointed out that Rs1.6 crore had been allocated as team-based incentives for medical staff over the past year to encourage deliveries in government hospitals.
The minister directed district medical officers to elucidate about the Arogya Mahila programme during district and mandal mahila samakhya meetings.
Underscoring the significance of vaccination, Rao applauded Karimnagar, Medak, and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts for their exemplary performance, while urging improved vaccination rates in Hanamkonda, Mancherial and Khammam districts.
Meanwhile, he announced setting up of SNCU in Huzurabad area hospital and NBSUs in area hospitals at Patancheru, Huzur Nagar; CHC Maktal, Dubbaka, Ghatkesar, Chityala, and NRC centers in Eturnagaram and Amrabad CHC hospitals within the next ten days.
The minister emphasized the significance of the centre of excellence at Niloufer hospital, which links 18 SNCUs, in order to provide 24-hour services and prioritize newborn baby healthcare. He wanted DMOs, deputy DMHOs and program officers to assess the provision of BP and sugar medications at the grassroots level. He also highlighted the importance of palliative care services and the cath lab at Nizamabad and Siddipet government hospitals.
The minister directed speedy provision of Telangana diagnostic's 134 test types within 24 hours, while addressing concerns regarding its availability in Jagtial and Mahabubabad districts.
Pledging to extend quality healthcare to rural areas, he pointed out the presence of over 3,000 palle dawakhanas. He called for maintaining a minimum OP rate of 25 and attaining the first position in the national quality assurance program.
In the light of the changing weather conditions, he called for preparedness against seasonal diseases.
