101-year-old freedom fighter honoured

ANANTAPUR: A 101-year-old freedom fighter P. Bala Yella Reddy of Chenuur in YSR district received encomiums on Tuesday as part of the on-going Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav festivities in the district.

Kadapa collector V. Vijaya Ramaraju, SP Anbu Rajan, municipal commissioner Surya Sai Praveen Chand were among those who honoured the veteran freedom fighter.

Bala Yella Reddy played key role in dynamiting of Kondapet- Chennur causeway during the Quit India Movement in 1942. He underwent imprisonment for the same.

Speaking on the occasion, the collector said the entire district feels great privilege in honouring the freedom fighter with a dhoti, shawl and kanduva.

Kadapa RDO Dharma Chandra Reddy was among those present.
