After a lull, rains hit parts of Hyderabad again
HYDERABAD: After a gap of several days, rains have made their presence in parts of Hyderabad city on Tuesday. At 5 p.m., the highest rainfall of 16.5 mm had been recorded in the city at Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) office in Kukatpally.
According to officials of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), eastern parts of Telangana will witness lightning and thunderstorms during the next three to four days.
“We have recorded light rains over the capital city because the monsoon had weakened. But the situation is expected to change now, as a rain-bearing cloud, which originated over the Arabian Sea, is travelling over the state from north interior Karnataka,” IMD Hyderabad director K. Naga Ratna told Deccan Chronicle.
These clouds will aggravate wind speeds over the city up to 10–20 kmph, she said.
As of now, Telangana has received 30 per cent more than its normal rainfall, which is 441.8 mm. The total rainfall recorded so far has been 574.7 mm.
According to climatological tables of IMD, the city has 11.5 mean rainy days in the month of August. The average rainfall it receives during this month is 207 mm.
