UK team stops by to explore Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan officially welcomed the 41-member youth team from the UK in the age group of 21-25 that came to Kerala University on Tuesday as part of the generation UK India programme of the British Council. The Chief Minister wished the delegation saying that the two weeks they spend in the state would help them in having a better understanding of the state.
“Let the stay help you in acquiring more knowledge and also be entertained,” the chief minister said. British Deputy High Commissioner, Chennai, Bharat Joshi said that such trips would help in fostering better relations between the two countries. Experts in various subjects like D Babu Paul, K Jayakumar, Dr Achuthsankar S Nair, T P Sreenivasan, J Prabash and Meena T Pillai, will lead the study classes for the youth team.
The students will travel to various places like Balaramapuram, Kanyakumari, Colachel, Anchuthengu, Varkala, Paravur and Santhigiri Ashramam. The university has also arranged various art and cultural programmes as part of the programme. Kerala University, along with six other universities were chosen through an all-India selection process for the Generation UK-India programme. Kerala University Pro Vice-Chancellor N Veeramanikandan presided over the function. Director of British Council in India Alan Gemmel attended the function. The two-week prgramme aims at experiencing Indian education system.
