Health Secretary Rajeev Sadanandan summons Kochi Cancer Centre files
KOCHI: The Kochi Cancer Centre will have a revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) in place of what has been prepared by the Hospital Service Consultancy Corporation (HSCC). This was disclosed by health secretary Rajeev Sadanandan who said that the DPR prepared by HSCC has several shortcomings in terms of medical requirements.
“A place like Kochi requires a tertiary cancer care centre with advanced medical facilities. The DPR by HSCC does not mention the advanced specialties that have come up in cancer care in recent times. After going through the report I have referred it to experts in Regional Cancer Centre and Malabar Cancer Centre for suggestions so that a futuristic centre can be established,” Mr Rajeev Sadanandan told this newspaper on Tuesday.
He said that he has not gone into the cost aspect of the project which is referred to as Rs 450 crore in the DPR. “Such discussions will take place later. We need an advanced centre. Let the experts give their suggestions and I have asked the new District Collector of Ernakulam (Mohammed Y. Safirulla) to come for a discussion. He will be retained as the special officer of the project for the time being as it will be useful in several aspects of the implementation,” Mr Rajeev said. “The meeting of the Governing Council of the centre will be convened after clarity on all aspects of the cance centre is made," Mr Rajeev said adding that he has not looked into the issue of opening the outpatient wing right now.
