Collector N Prasanth stops land filling of mangroves

Almost 25 cents of land has already been filled with soil.

KOZHIKODE: Kozhikode District Collector has sought a report on an incident where a land owner allegedly tried to destroy over five acres of mangrove forest at Eranjikkal in near Pavangad. Acting on the Collector’s direction, a team headed by additional tehsildar visited the spot and ordered immediate stoppage of land filling.

The land is owned by Thekkuveettil Thazhath K.T. Prasanth. District Collector N. Prasanth said that the owner has been gradually filling the five acre area which comes under the Coastal Regulatory Zone. Almost 25 cents of land has already been filled with soil. "I have sought a report from the village officer. The local body concerned can take action against the person. "The District Administration, based on the report, will invoke action according to Section 18 of Kerala Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, 2008," he added.
