Slain SI Bande's wife dead, family yet to get pension
KALABURAGI: Tragedy struck the family of slain police officer Mallikarjun Bande following the demise of his wife Mallamma (40), who was suffering from brain tumour for some time. She died at her sister’s residence early Saturday.
Mallamma was working as a supervisor in an anganawadi and had earlier undergone a surgery at Nimhans Bangalore to remove tumour. She is survived by two children Saidarshan and Shivani.
Mallamma had to fight to get compensation and other rewards that were announced by the state government following death of her husband Mallikarjun, in a shootout with a rowdy Munna here on January 14, 2014.
The government has paid Rs 50 lakh compnesation to the family and allotted a housing site in a layout of the Kalaburagi Urban Development Authority here. However the promised payment of Bande’s last drawn salary in full till the retirement date is yet to materialise.
The proposal for payment of the full salary got stuck in the Finance Department after it took objection that the rules do not permit such a payment. In addition, the family also did not get the due pension.
Mallamma had made the State government agree for paying her medical expenses by staging a protest in Bengaluru. Kalaburagi SP N Shashikumar, who visited the residence, said that the government would bear the educational expenses of the two children.
