Corrupt staff put on notice: Thottathil Raveendran

Thottathil Raveendran takes over as Kozhikode Mayor second time

KOZHIKODE: Mayor Thottathil Raveendran said that stringent action would be taken against civic body officials who were involved in corruption. The council will not take any action to safeguard their interest and deal with them mercilessly. He was addressing the council after assuming the office of mayor following his election.

“There are upright officers in our office, however another section of corrupt officials are there to spoil the name of the Corporation and its efforts to better serve the people. This will be dealt with utmost seriousness,” he added. Mr Raveendran said that his priority would be to ensure cleanliness in the City during the monsoon season.

“Comprehensive development is required for the City. Across party lines, we require support from councilors and we can together take the City to glory. We are going on the right path I believe,” he added. He said that the City Consultative committee’s opinions would be used for City planning.

The Corporation also required enough staff for effective functioning and the state government’s policy to fill the vacancies as early as possible was a positive sign, he added. Various party leaders who spoke extended their support to the new mayor and hoped the prior experience he had as mayor would help in better administration.

Opposition leader Adv P.M Suresh Babu said that the timeliness and discipline followed by the Mayor could be an example for councillors to follow. IUML leader Abdu Rahiman requested the mayor to continue the 13-point action plan introduced by VKC Mammed Koya.
