Kasturba College revels in fest

Hyderabad: The Kasturba Gandhi Degree and PG College for Women was a picture of varied hues and hustle-bustle on Tuesday as the college kicked off its two-day cultural and academic fest ‘Navarang’.

After a long break due to discontinuous academic years propelled by the Covid-induced lockdowns, colleges in the city are resuming their annual fests, which are among the highlights of an academic year, according to students.

The celebrations were special on the day as a famous alumnus, singer Ramya Behra, whose songs feature in ‘RRR’, ‘Baahubali’ and ‘Sita Ramam’, offered an impressive rendition of ‘O Sita, Vadalanika Todavuta’, which was well-received by students.

Around 80 colleges took part in the events on the day, with the college receiving a footfall of around 6,000 people, said Preethi Pramanik, a B. Com student who is one of the organisers.

“The welcome simi traditional dace was a highlight, along with that the competitions that took place — stand-up comedy, rap, and solo and group dancing.”

Wilcina Genevieve, the student council president, said, “Our team worked for more than a month on this event to make sure that everything goes off smoothly. Along with the cultural events and entertainment, there are intellectual ones too, like Chem Fiesta, Science o memory, essay writing, ad making, business quiz, poster presentation and biotech shadz. These engaged the participants.”

Dr Rajshree, vice principal and convener, said, “Students are coming up with such innovative ideas; these kinds of events do bring out the special talent of the students. Their skills of team work and smart work are also evident in this.”
