Uyare to kickstart ICFFK

Over 3,000 children from across the state will take part in the seven-day long movie extravaganza held at five venues in the state capital.

Thiruvananthapuram: Cultural minister A.K. Balan will inaugurate the second edition of the International Children’s Film Festival of Kerala (ICFFK) at Tagore theatre on Friday.

Sixteen national and world classic movies will be screened on the first day of the festival. Actor Sudheer Karamana inaugurated the distribution of festival kit for delegates. The Kerala State Council for Child Welf-are, the organiser of the festival, has ensured a disabled friendly festival.

General secretary of the Council Deepak P. S. said: “We have made all arrangement in the venues for children with disability. It’s vacation time and many children from weaker section of the society never get the luxury of fun-filled vacation time. This is our treat for them. We are providing accommodation for children from tribal settlements and other children at shelter homes,” said Mr Deepak.

Celebrities including Mukesh, Indrans, Sudh-eer Karamana, Neeraj Madhav and Aishwarya Lakshmi are expected to take part in the inaugural function.

Malayalam movie Uyare is the inaugural movie, and the council has arranged a special show for the general public at Tagore Theatre.

As many as 160 screenings would be held at five venues — Kairali, Nila, Sree, Kalabhavan and Tagore Theatre.

As part of the festival, there would be open-forum at Kairali, which will be attended by renowned persons from various creative streams in the film industry.
