A R Rahman’s tweet causes stir

Chennai: An image of an angry woman, unmistakably representing Tamil, dancing with her tresses spread out and emoting anger, was tweeted by musical genius A R Rahman, impelling his fans and followers to tie it up with the ongoing controversy over Union Home Minister Amit Shah asking people to accept Hindi as their language.

Titled ‘Tamizhanangu,’ the pictorial depiction of Mother Tamil draped in a white saree and holding a spear with the Tamil alphabet Zha, which is quintessentially a Tamil character, at the head, the poster only has a footnote which is a line from a famous poem by Bhartidasan saying , ‘Sweet Tamil is the Root of our Rights.

Since the Mother Tamil was seen dancing in a red backdrop, suggestions were made that it was the sign of protest by Rahman against what is widely being objected by all political leaders as ‘Hindi imposition.’
