Uttar Pradesh: Family claims Mowgli girl

Bhullan Shah of Kamlapur village in Jaunpur has claimed that the girl is his niece who is mentally challenged.

Lucknow: The mystery over the ‘Mowgli girl’ gets deeper with every passing day. The girl — first named Van Durga, then Puja and now Ehsaas — is now said to be Aliza from Jaunpur who went missing from home in March 2016.

Bhullan Shah of Kamlapur village in Jaunpur has claimed that the girl is his niece who is mentally challenged. He said that she had gone missing while playing outside their house last year and the family even lodged a missing complaint. Bhullan Shah met the doctor incharge, D.K. Singh in Bahraich and showed him the girl’s photographs.

Dr Singh said that prima facie it appeared that the girl belonged to Bhullan Shah’s family but more verification would be needed and this would include a DNA test too. Shah claimed that Aliza has six sisters and one brother.

Meanwhile, officials at Nirvana, the shelter home where the girl has been kept, said that a proper police investigation would be needed to ascertain the claims of the family.

“If she went missing from her home last year, where was she during this period? How did she survive in the jungle? The girl does not seem to be mentally challenged but it will take a few weeks before we can make an assessment. She is still being fed by others and needs toilet training,” said an official.
