Rights of students often questioned: Ajay Adat

Two-day Festival of Resistance' concludes in Koyilandy.

KOZHIKODE: A mass commemoration meet of recently demised people in the limelight was hosted at Koyilandy on Saturday as part of the two-day programme ‘Festival of Resistance’ organised by cultural activists. Actor Kalabhavan Mani, poet ONV Kurup, student activist Rohith Vemula and freedom fighter Kurumayil Narayanan were commemorated by people directly and indirectly associated with them.

VT Murali spoke about his relationship with ONV and Kalabhavan Mani, the two legends of Malayalam films in different genres. Sheetal Syam representing the transgender community, Farook College student K. Dinu, who was suspended from the college over gender discrimination issue and FTII, Pune, student and former union chair Ajay Adat spoke for Rohith Vemula, the University of Hyderabad student who committed suicide.

“Students’ rights are often questioned, and people like me are raising our voice against the inequality,” Mr Adat said. "The political interference and aggressive Hindutva intrusion on the campus had led to the suicide of Rohith." The meet concluded with various cultural events including the music concert of the band ‘Songs of Resistance.’
