Police, doctor dispute leads to closure of outpatient ward
MALAPPURAM: The medical officer of the Government Hospital at Malabar Special Police (MSP) camp here, who filed a case against a senior MSP official for misbehaving at the workplace, has accused the authorities intimidating and threatening by shutting down the outpatient ward.
MSP officials had locked medical officer Dr Sajini’s room on Friday morning and kept away the key from her. Following the unprecedented closure of the hospital, nine staffers including two doctors and patients had to wait outside for hours. Later the authorities opened the hospital after a timely intervention of P. Ubaidullah MLA. The MSP authorities have only opened the OP department, and all the other wards of the hospital remained shut on Saturday.
The dispute between MSP officials and the doctor turned bitter after an investigating team came for deposition from her following her complaint to the DGP against an assistant commandant.
She had complained to the MSP authorities and other higher officials including district medical officer before that. Following this, the police recorded her deposition last week.
“MSP authorities threatened me to fire from the hospital if my disposition was against them. No actions were taken on my complaints to the concerned officials, and that led me to approach the DGP,” Dr Sajini said.
At the same time, MSP commandant Rahul S. Nair denied all the allegations. He said there were complaints against her misbehavior to MSP cadets and public. But the lady doctor said the root of the issue lied in her complaint of misbehaviour against the senior MSP official. The district committee of Kerala Government Medical Officers’ Association has asked authorities to stop avenging.
