AP High Court to come up at Kurnool's Jagannatha Gattu

AP Finance Minister disclosed that around 250 acres of land at Jagannatha Gattu is likely to be allocated for construction of High Court

KURNOOL: Andhra Pradesh government has finally zeroed in on the site for establishment of the AP High Court in the judicial capital of Kurnool city.

During his visit to Srisailam for offering silk clothes to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi on behalf of the state government, finance minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy disclosed that around 250 acres of land at Jagannatha Gattu on outskirts of the Kurnool city is likely to be allocated for construction of the AP High Court.

Orvakal Airport, which is scheduled to start operations from March 28, is very near to this place.

Earlier, Kurnool district administration had planned to accommodate the High Court either on the APSP Second Battalion ground in the city or in Kottam Tulasi Reddy College located on National Highway 44. Some officials also recommended that the court could run from the Bala Sai Baba International School located at Munagalapadu village near NH 44.

However, district revenue officials said they have not yet received any official instructions from the government on location of the AP High Court. Only after receiving formal orders can they start acquiring lands for construction of the High Court.

An official, who wished to remain anonymous, said even if the government decides to immediately shift the High Court from Amaravati to Kurnool, they are ready to identify suitable buildings to run the court.
