Visakhapatnam: Hundreds of devotees, who thronged the Lord Suryanarayana Swamy temple at Arasavalli in Srikakulam district on Thursday morning to witness the first sun rays fall directly on the feet of the deity, were disappointed as sunlight failed to caress the feet of the idol. The devotees said that the delayed sunrise, coupled with cloudy weather conditions, in Arasavalli disappointed them. The unique construction of the temple ensures that the first rays of sun fall on the feet of the idol of Lord Suryanarayana, the presiding deity of the temple, and slowly rise to light up the idol to the level of its naval on three days -- on March 9, 10 and 11) during Uttrayanam period and three days -- on October 1, 2 and 3 in Dakshinayanam.

With a desire to witness the rare scene early in the morning, hundreds of devotees from various parts of North Andhra and a few parts of Southern Odisha had reached the temple in the wee hours of Thursday. However, the cloudy weather played spoilsport, forcing the devotees to stay back for darshan on Friday. The Met officials have predicted that cloudy weather was likely to prevail in many parts of Srikakulam on Friday too.
