MALAPPURAM: The by-election to the Malappuaram Parliament constituency, which was represented by the late E. Ahmed, former union minister and IUML national president, will be held on April 12. The voters included in the latest electoral list published on January 14 will be eligible to vote. The electioneering in Malappuram constituency is set to pick up momentum.

The IUML is spearheading the UDF campaign which was launched last week with the reshuffle of local committees. According to IUML sources, former minister P.K. Kunhalikutty, who was elected as the party's national general secretary last month, is likely to be the UDF candidate. "The state leaders would meet soon to decide the candidate," said Mr K.P.A. Majeed, state general secretary. The LDF district leadership will also meet soon to choose its nominee.
