Nehru College Pampady to take students back
Thrissur: The management of Nehru College Pampady on Thursday gave an assurance in writing to allow four SFI activists at Pharmacy College to attend classes. They had allegedly asked them to keep away when the classes resumed on Wednesday after monthlong protests over the suicide of engineering student Jishnu Pranoy. On Thursday, the college and its surroundings witnessed a slew of demonstrations against the "vindictive stand." The joint students’ committee protested on the campus while SFI staged a road roko outside for one and a half hours.
The SFI said their 23 workers were taken away by the police. After that, students met the principal of the pharmacy college B. Sreedharan and got the written assurance not to take action against them. With the probe into the death led by ASP Kiran Narayanan yet to reach a conclusion, they allege the authorities were trying to put pressure on them and their relatives to give a favourable statement to the special investigation team.
