Kuttikkattoor Government Higher Secondary School brightens its dark corners'
KOZHIKODE: These ‘bright’ corners and corridors of Government Higher Secondary School, Kuttikkattoor, are on a mission to erase out the ‘notorious' tag the dark corners once had in the educational institutions. Touted to be the places where the students got introduced to the bad habits starting from chewing tobacco products to injecting drugs, the teachers and students here are on a campaign with the support of the excise department.
The school has turned one of its corners into ‘anti-drugs corner’, with writings and pictures on the ill effects of doing drugs. The initiatives are made by the National Service Scheme of the school, said programme officer P. Abdul Rahiman. Fifty students from Plus Two and 46 trained students from Plus One are part of the campaign. CI M.K. Gireesh trained the students.
“We have been conducting anti-drug campaign under the initiative of the NSS unit for almost three years and focused on our adopted village - Thadaparamba, that has been facing issues related to drug abuse. Teenagers are more likely to fell prey to the temptations of drugs, and we decided that our children would not get attracted to them. Now, each class is having a minimum of eight NSS volunteers to spread the message against the use of drugs,” said Mr Rahman. At the corner, they also gather to speak on the current incidents of substance abuse and motivate students not to get attracted. Apart from the lectures at the ‘corner’, the students also visit nearby houses to spread the message.
