Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation milk to be costlier by Rs 4

The authority to declare price hike had been vested with Milma in 2011 as per a HC order.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (Milma) has decided to increase the price of milk from Saturday due to a drought-like situation and increase in the price of milk procured from Karnataka. This was announced by Milma chairman P.T. Gopala Kurup here on Thursday. The last hike in milk prices was made in July 2014. The revised price of the various milk variants will be as follows.

Old price in bracket: Double-toned milk, yellow cover: Rs 39 per litre, Rs19.50, half litre. (Rs 35). Toned milk-light blue cover, non-homogenised: Rs 40 per litre, Rs 20, half litre. (Rs 36). Toned milk, dark blue cover: Rs 42 per litre, Rs 21, half litre. (Rs 38). Pride milk, orange cover: Rs 44 per litre, Rs22, half litre. (Rs 40). Standardised milk, green cover: Rs 44 per litre, Rs 22, half litre. (Rs 40).

When asked if the government had ratified the decision to increase the price of milk, Mr Kurup said that there was no need. The authority to declare price hike had been vested with Milma in 2011 as per a HC order. As it would take time for the packets with the new prices printed on it to arrive, the milk will be supplied in packets with old price, but with the revised prices. These packets will be replaced when the new ones arrive.
