Congress holds meet to remember Abdul Jabbar
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Abdul Jabbar of Manacaud was hailed by politicians as the martyr of Law Academy Law College Agitation at a remembrance meeting. Jabbar, a retired checking inspector of KSRTC, was admitted to a private hospital by a good Samaritan after he fell unconscious and was not attended to by emergency vehicles. Jabbar had been diagnosed with heart disease earlier. His son, Feroze Abdul Jabbar, was the Youth Congress’ Mandalam president.
State leaders under KPCC president V.M Sudheeran assembled at Thykkappally in Manacaud on Thursday for the remembrance meeting. Mr Sudheeran has now demanded a probe into the circumstances leading to Jabbar's death. The Peroorkada police has registered a case. Friends remembered that Jabbar was too energetic a man to put his feet up after his retirement. After his daily prayers and religious activities, he used to put his free KSRTC pass to good use and travel around, said neighbours who participated in the meetings.
“Mr Jabbar had come to law academy and marked his presence at the fasting protest venue of MLA K Muraleedharan for four days,” said KSU leader JS Akhil. “The aggressive mood in the protest venue and workers pouring kerosene on themselves to attempt self immolation might have built up mental pressure,” said Abdul Wahab, a friend. The Law Academy students irrespective of their political bias went to Jabbar’s house to offer condolences.
