Heritage activist V.K. Bawa passes away

He was responsible for protecting 138 buildings by declaring them heritage buildings under the provisions of the HUDA Act

HYDERABAD: Heritage activist and historian Vasant Kumar Bawa passed away on Monday. He was 93 and is survived by wife Oudesh Rani Bawa.
Born in Ferozepur in Punjab, he wore many hats in his illustrious career, which began as a sub-collector in erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh.

Subsequently, he headed the State Archives and was the founder vice-chairman of Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA) and founder of Deccan Studies journal.

He was responsible for protecting 138 buildings by declaring them heritage buildings under the provisions of the HUDA Act. He was instrumental in framing civic rules in Hyderabad through HUDA.

He founded Asian Studies, and SPEQL and wrote exhaustive books on the Nizam, Salar Jung and Latin America.
