Chennai: Demonstrating impressive political energy, Sasikala Natarajan on Monday completed her five-day interact sessions with the functionaries of all the 50 party districts where she stressed on unity and the need to bring in young blood to further strengthen the AIADMK.
This apart, the new general secretary spent considerable time meeting the ‘commoners’ in the party and also the general public distributing relief and Rs 3 lakh bank drafts to the families of 166 people who had either killed themselves or died of shock following Jayalalithaa’s death.
It has been a hectic week for Chinnamma who lit the lamp to inaugurate the India Today South Conclave and also opened an exhibition of Jayalalithaa pictures. Continuing with her sagacious strategy to project herself as an accessible leader, she made herself available for meetings at Poes Garden bungalow where several party functionaries and society VIPs came calling. She worked on Sundays too and among the visitors at home was Dato S. A. Vigneswaran, president of the Malaysian Senate.
Some of the district functionaries are understood to have urged Chinnamma to take the reins of state administration as well by becoming the chief minister.
Both MGR and Jayalalithaa had held both the positions as the head of the party as well as the state chief minister—when the AIADMK won power—they pointed out. Sasikala kept mum but her demeanor showed she liked the plea.
